Introduction
Consider if there are some people who we might think are too sinful for God’s church? People whom God cannot reach?
God’s works to save even the outcasts
Explain: how does the Lord work to make sure that Philip speaks to the Ethiopian eunuch? What does this show about God’s love and sovereignty?
Explain: how was the eunuch considered
an outcast
? Why was he only welcome in the court of the Gentiles?Explain: what has Jesus done to ensure that everyone who believes can be received into God’s presence?
Apply: for whom is the good news of Jesus Christ? Are there any people who are unworthy of hearing the gospel? [NO!]
Apply: what does it mean for God’s church to be catholic? How can we make sure that we welcome outsiders and outcasts who trust in Jesus?
Apply: what can we do to promote, support, and encourage the preaching of God’s Word? As individuals (consider our giving, prayers)? As a church community (consider training of ministers, hosting events, etc.)?
Conclusion
The good news of Jesus Christ is good news for all people, even those we might consider to be outcasts. We do not know who God has chosen to eternal life. It is not our job to pick favourites and minister his Word only to those whom we like. All people must hear the good news of Jesus Christ and we should make plans to share that news with as many people as we can.
