Job 7:11 (ESV)

11 “Therefore I will not restrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.

Job now directs his words to God in prayer. He cannot keep his grief to himself, and there is no one he can fully share it with except for God. In Job 7:11–21 Job prays with a fierceness that may shock his listeners.

He is not the only believer who has prayed in this way. Hannah’s prayer was so fervent that Eli mistook it for drunkenness (1 Samuel 1:13–14). And Jesus himself prayed to his Father with loud cries and tears (Hebrews 5:7).
