This is the only instance in the book of Leviticus where the Lord speaks directly to Aaron. Elsewhere, God addresses Aaron through, or jointly with, Moses. This highlights the importance of what follows. Aaron is addressed in his capacity as the head of the priests; that is, the one responsible for the priesthood. Despite the disobedience of his sons, Aaron has not been disqualified as the high priest, he is still the one who is called to mediate between God and man.
