The text says that God listened to the voice of Manoah.
It is remarkable, but gracious, that God listens to Manoah’s problematic plea, and answers by sending the messenger again to earth. At the same time, it is striking that he sends the angel not to Manoah but again to his wife, while she was out in the field, and Manoah was not with her. The Lord will not be manipulated by Manoah. We are not told why the Lord bypasses Manoah in this way. But it could be that he is determined if not to keep the man in relative ignorance then certainly to ensure that the woman, who is the key to the plot, retains the advantage so far as knowledge of the work and ways of God are concerned.
1 It would seem the Lord will not let Manoah take control of the situation. He should have simply listened to his wife.
9 And God listened to the voice of Manoah, and the angel of God came again to the woman as she sat in the field. But Manoah her husband was not with her.
