John writes “for a thousand years.” That is the identical duration of Satan’s imprisonment, that is, the new dispensation. The point is that as Satan, though thought to be “the ruler of this world” (John 12:31; 2 Corinthians 4:4), is restrained from deceiving the nations, the victims of his lackeys are made kings in this world! Indeed, the first shall be last, and the last first (Matthew 20:16).
4 Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom the authority to judge was committed. Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for the testimony of Jesus and for the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
