The actions of the first three angels (Revelation 16:2–4) generated a heavenly response after the angels completed their pouring (Revelation 16:5–7). The actions of the second three angels (Revelation 16:8–16) generated a heavenly response (interjection!) nearly at the end of John’s account (Revelation 16:15). But with the seventh angel the heavenly response comes directly on the heels of the angel completing his pouring and before John describes the consequences. That is understandable when we take into account the elevated position people have ascribed to Satan. The people under whose feet God had placed his creation (Psalm 8:6–8) had recognized Satan as the god of this world. By pouring out this final bowl on Satan’s post-eviction abode (Revelation 12:9), the God enthroned in heaven could well cry out that “it is done,” even before the consequences of this pouring become evident.
17 The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple, from the throne, saying, “It is done!”
