If we trust in Christ, we find him to be our glorious Lord; we esteem him as the Lord of glory. If we trust in Christ, we find him to be our satisfaction and our joy. Our [sinful] hearts are directed fundamentally to the approval of others. Not that we do not struggle with it, but our hearts are fundamentally geared in that direction. Our [regenerated] hearts are fundamentally directed toward Christ, and we find him more glorious and satisfying than riches and the approval of the rich person. So, do you see here that James is again reminding us of the gospel. James is not a legalistic book. James is saying, where do you put your trust? That is how he starts this paragraph: in what do you put your faith? That is the gospel, isn't it? Christ is glorious, do you see that? Have you experienced it? Do you embrace that? Or are you trusting in money to make you happy? Are you investing in the kingdom?1
