Proverbs 13:16 (ESV)

16 In everything the prudent acts with knowledge, but a fool flaunts his folly.

A prudent person is someone who thinks carefully, and with common sense before acting or speaking. He is a person who applies his wisdom and knowledge before making a decision or saying a word. His increasing knowledge of God’s Word will dominate his life so that everything he does and says will reflect wisdom. A foolish man, in contrast is one who despises true wisdom by regarding it as being of no value and will choose to make his own decisions without referring to the ultimate source of wisdom, which is God Himself. To flaunt something is to display it in a provocative way in order to boast about having knowledge. To act in this way shows the folly of the person who does so.
