These two terms both appeared in Revelation 6:8, where “Death” was the rider of the pale horse and "Hades” followed behind. In that passage, “Death” was pictured as hunting for as many victims as it could from Earth’s population. “Hades” is the Greek term for the Hebrew place known as “Sheol,” the realm of the dead. In Revelation 6:8 “Hades” follows Death to gather into her bosom those whom Death has killed. In the present passage, we are assured that this team must relinquish all their victims.
13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done.
