1. 1 Samuel 24:12 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Why did David pray for the LORD to avenge the wrongs that have been done to him?

1 Samuel 24:12 (ESV)

12 May the LORD judge between me and you, may the LORD avenge me against you, but my hand shall not be against you.

Prayers of vengeance are prayers that commit vengeance to the Lord. This is the way of faith: to recognize that God is the judge and to leave the execution of justice in his hands according to his time.1 Whereas Saul sought to avenge himself on those who did him wrong (1 Samuel 14:24; 1 Samuel 18:25), David left vengeance in the hands of the Lord.2
