Job 19:22 (ESV)

22 Why do you, like God, pursue me? Why are you not satisfied with my flesh?

Has God not inflicted enough pain on Job? Job begs his friends not to add to this pain (through false accusations). Yet it has become clear by now that Job’s friends will not listen to his pleas for pity. Their hearts are hardened by their own beliefs about suffering. In connection with this verse, someone has once remarked that there is no conflict as bitter as a religious conflict.
