Christ dwells in his people by his Spirit (John 14:16–17; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 2:6–16).1 As a result, those who have faith in Christ are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17) so that the idea of continuing in sin simply does not make sense.2 Indeed, God’s Spirit empowers believers to bear the fruit of obedience (Galatians 3:2; Galatians 4:6; Galatians 5:16–18, Galatians 5:22–25).
20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
