John can tell the seven churches of Asia (and so the churches of all times and places) that already Jesus loves us.
It was love that prompted the Son to leave the glorious presence of the Father in heaven in order to enter our broken world and lay down his life for sinners (see John 13:1; Philippians 2:5–8). The result of his love was that he has freed us from our sins by his blood
through his sacrifice on the cross.
