18For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.
It was a common understanding within Judaism that heaven and earth will disappear on the day of the Lord. This day will be the consummation of the kingdom (Matthew 24:24–25; Jeremiah 31:35–37),1 and the beginning of the new creation (Isaiah 65:17; Revelation 21:1; 2 Peter 3:13).2
18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.
