1. Leviticus 16:14 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

How does this differ from other purification offerings?

Leviticus 16:14 (ESV)

14 And he shall take some of the blood of the bull and sprinkle it with his finger on the front of the mercy seat on the east side, and in front of the mercy seat he shall sprinkle some of the blood with his finger seven times.

Normally the blood of the purification offering was sprinkled on the outside of the curtain leading into the holy of holies, as well as on the altar of incense which was also outside the curtain. On the Day of Atonement, the blood is taken into the innermost sanctuary and sprinkled on the mercy seat.
