Job had come close to denying the truth stated in Job 36:5. He had complained that God overlooks his own just case, while allowing the wicked to live in peace (Job 12:6; Job 21:7; Job 23:8–10; Job 24:1–12). Against these complaints, Elihu defends God’s justice and kindness. He does not keep the wicked alive
and he gives the afflicted their right.
6 He does not keep the wicked alive, but gives the afflicted their right.
