The number “seven” is significant throughout the book of Revelation and indeed throughout the whole Bible. This number speaks of fullness, and so in this instance represents the totality of the Lord’s churches throughout the ages. All God’s churches of all times and places are to receive a copy of this Revelation. Moreover, this Revelation is source of blessing and encouragement for all churches anywhere and anytime.
11 saying, “Write what you see in a book and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea.”
