In keeping with his identity as one like a son of man, this person is dressed in the clothing of nobility. The “long robe” could make one think of what a priest was to wear (see Exodus 28:4, Exodus 28:40; Exodus 29:5), but royalty also wore robes (1 Samuel 18:4; 1 Samuel 24:5, 1 Samuel 24:12). Further, the “golden sash around his chest” could again make one think of a priest (Exodus 28:8), but just as readily of kings. Certainly the echo from Daniel 7:13f compels us to conclude that the robe signifies the kingly character of the wearer.
13 and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, clothed with a long robe and with a golden sash around his chest.
