Evidence of love for Christ exhibits itself in love for the brethren. John had himself written about this love in 1 John 3:16f. The Pentecost church showed this love clearly (Acts 2:41–47), as did the churches of Macedonia (2 Corinthians 8:1ff). This is the level of love to which every church needs to revert as Jesus trims the wick through his admonitions. It is this love for the brethren that makes a church shine in this world (Philippians 2:15).
5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.
