Proverbs 16:31 (ESV)

31 Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained in a righteous life.

Scripture acknowledges the difficulties that come with age, such as poor eyesight and bodily weakness. Yet Scripture also says of Abraham, Gideon, and David that they died “at a good old age” (Genesis 15:15; Genesis 25:8; Judges 8:32; 1 Chronicles 29:28). And here we see that gray hair is a “crown of glory” that is “gained by a righteous life.” People who keep themselves busy with unrighteousness often die early. But the fear of the Lord can lengthen a person’s life in many ways (Proverbs 3:1–2).
