The scribes claim that Jesus is casting out demons only because he himself is possessed by Satan. According to them, Jesus' miracles are due to the power of the devil and not the Spirit of God. Maybe this idea came to them because they saw the demon-possessed throw themselves at Jesus’ feet crying out, “You are the Son of God” (Mark 3:11).
22 And the scribes who came down from Jerusalem were saying, “He is possessed by Beelzebul,” and “by the prince of demons he casts out the demons.”
