1. Revelation 11:18 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

How do the elders describe the divine actions that followed on the coming of God’s wrath?

Revelation 11:18 (ESV)

18 The nations raged, but your wrath came, and the time for the dead to be judged, and for rewarding your servants, the prophets and saints, and those who fear your name, both small and great, and for destroying the destroyers of the earth.”

The twenty-four elders, blessed as they are with their heavenly knowledge, mention three actions that follow on the arrival of God’s wrath:

  1. The dead are judged.

  2. God’s servants receive their reward.

  3. Earth’s destroyers are destroyed.

Each of these three shall receive further attention in coming chapters of Jesus’ revelation to John.  Concerning the judgment of the dead, see Revelation 20:11–15; concerning the reward for God’s servants, see Revelation 22:12; concerning the destruction of earth’s destroyers, see Revelation 19:2. These actions are the logical consequences to the declaration of Jesus’ kingship in Revelation 11:15
