These are the elect of God (Ephesians 1:4), those whom the Father has given to the Son for redemption (John 17:2). Despite the fact that they feel the heavy crush of the beast’s paws and the deadly bite of its mouth (Revelation 13:2), these saints do not join in worshipping this beast (which represents human self-sufficiency/autonomy). They retain their dependence on the Lord’s grace as displayed in the sacrifice of his Son, the Lamb who was slain.
8 and all who dwell on earth will worship it, everyone whose name has not been written before the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb who was slain.
