In radical contrast to the dragon, the beast from the sea, and the beast from the earth, John now sees a lamb. Whereas the first three beasts were overwhelmingly intimidating and fierce, this fourth creature is harmless—certainly not worthy of the term “beast.” In fact, a lamb is vulnerable to beasts.
