The connection of Revelation 8:1–6 with Revelation 6-7

Revelation 8:1–6 (ESV)

1 When the Lamb opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.

In Revelation 6:1–17 the Lamb had opened six of the seals binding the scroll he took from God’s hand. Action followed the opening of each seal, climaxing in the horrors of the sixth seal when God began to decreate his creation. In response, all people (Revelation 6:15) implored the mountains to fall on them so as to escape the wrath of God and of the Lamb, and they uttered their anguished cry, “Who can stand?” The Lord delayed the opening of the seventh seal to answer that question in Revelation 7:1–17. Now Revelation 8:1–13 continues where Revelation 6:1–17 left off and relates what happens when the Lamb opened the seventh seal.
