The sun is too bright for the naked human eye to observe directly. In Jesus’ self‑revelation in Revelation 1:1–20, his face “was like the sun shining in full strength,” thus too bright for John so that he fell on his face (Revelation 1:16). After Moses had been speaking with God, his own face shone as a reflection of God’s glory (Exodus 34:29–35). That this angel’s face was “like the sun” indicates specifically that he came from the very presence of God itself. This mighty angel is fully God’s personal ambassador to carry God’s personal message to Earth.
1 Then I saw another mighty angel coming down from heaven, wrapped in a cloud, with a rainbow over his head, and his face was like the sun, and his legs like pillars of fire.
