This passage teaches us a lot about God’s dealings with his people. We see how much effort the Lord puts in to win his people back for himself. He even has the patience for a new time in the wilderness for that. You can also apply this personally: sometimes God leads your life into a wilderness-like situation, where you have nothing left but him alone. He wants to show you that you are completely dependent on him, but also that his love for you is enough.
