1 Corinthians 1:11 (ESV)

11 For it has been reported to me by Chloe’s people that there is quarreling among you, my brothers.

This appeal would have come as a surprise to the Corinthians. They had written a letter to Paul (see 1 Corinthians 7:1), seeking his advice on various matters. But their letter never mentioned the fact that there were divisions and quarrels among them. They probably judged it better to withhold this information from Paul!

Yet the news of the divisions and quarrels in the Corinthian church had reached Paul via Chloe’s people. Chloe is not mentioned anywhere else in the Bible. She was probably a member of the Corinthian church. Her people would have been her family members or slaves. Perhaps they are the Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus who had brought the Corinthians’ gifts (and letter) to Paul (1 Corinthians 6:17).
