There is another psalm that David wrote about his experience in the cave; it is Psalm 57:1–11. When you compare this psalm with Psalm 142:1–7, you will see that Psalm 57:1–11 is more hopeful. At that time David was not alone anymore. Many people came to see him (see 1 Samuel 22:1). But before the Lord brought these people to him, David was completely alone. Psalm 142:1–7 was written in that loneliness. He was exhausted. Saul was a constant threat. In Gath they recognised him and he could hardly escape. And now, completely alone in the cave of Adullam, David feels depressed.
