1 Samuel 24:1–22 (ESV)

1 When Saul returned from following the Philistines, he was told, “Behold, David is in the wilderness of Engedi.”

The titles of both Psalm 57 and Psalm 142 appear to connect with 1 Samuel 24: For the director of music. To the tune of Do Not Destroy. Of David. A miktam. When he had fled from Saul into the cave. It could also be a reference to David’s time in the cave at Adullam (1 Samuel 22:1-2).

Psalm 57 appears to illustrate David’s reverence for God and reliance on him (Psalm 57:1,4). He trusts in God to deliver him from his trouble, to bring judgement in his time (Psalm 57:3). Given these statements, it would be good to sing Psalm 57 in response to your sermon.
