Amorites dwelled on both sides of the Jordan (Numbers 13:29; Joshua 11:3). The term is sometimes used to refer to a particular group (Joshua 3:10) or all the inhabitants of the land (Genesis 15:16). In this case the Lord is referring to Israel’s victories against Sihon and Og (Numbers 21:21–35).
8 Then I brought you to the land of the Amorites, who lived on the other side of the Jordan. They fought with you, and I gave them into your hand, and you took possession of their land, and I destroyed them before you.
