He covers the fire of his holiness. Just as the Lord covered Moses with his hand when he drew near to God (Exodus 33:18–23). That is why there is a cloud around him. And for the same reason, God goes to live in the darkest room in the temple. That is the holy of holies: God’s throne is there.
