1. Revelation 18:20 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What is the significance of the statement “for God has given judgment for you against her”?

Revelation 18:20 (ESV)

20 Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, for God has given judgment for you against her!”

The word “you” is plural, referring to the saints, the apostles and the prophets. As they had been victims of the prostitute’s attacks (Revelation 12:17; Revelation 13:7; see further Revelation 2:10, Revelation 2:13; Revelation 6:9), the Lord had turned her hatred against them back onto her own head (Revelation 18:6). So the impatient lament of the souls under the altar (Revelation 6:9) receives an appropriate and just response.
