Song of Solomon 2:8 (ESV)

8 The voice of my beloved! Behold, he comes, leaping over the mountains, bounding over the hills.

We have now arrived at a new section of the book of Song of Songs. It is a new scene. In the first section until Song of Solomon 2:7, husband and wife were together. They ate together, and went to a place where they could be alone together.

In the next section they are no longer together. The wife is at home and her husband is in the mountains. We get the impression that the husband is gone for an extended period of time. That also fits with his job. He is a shepherd. It was winter, which was the time of much rain and the time when it was cold and not much was growing. Because of this the shepherds sometimes needed to go far from home for a time in order to find enough pasture for their flocks.
