Song of Solomon 5:16 (ESV)

16 His mouth is most sweet, and he is altogether desirable. This is my beloved and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem.

When the wife thinks of her husband’s mouth, it is sweet to her. This is the mouth that kisses her in a unique way out of love. It is the mouth from which come the words of his unique love for her. Even if these are words of correction, she knows that it is based on his love for her. Love and desire for each other in marriage does not mean that you never correct, address, or admonish one another in love. True love means to hold on to each other based on the love for the Lord and for his Word, and according to the way that he loves us.

The last part of this verse shows that the wife has answered the challenging question of Song of Solomon 5:9. Now the girls of Jerusalem know why she cannot live without her husband, why exactly she longs for him so much, and why he is so important to her.
