The confidence the elect exiles (1 Peter 1:1) may have in God's unfolding his glorious work of redemption on the last day allows for no partial or half-hearted hope. What God is going to do in his final act of salvation—Christ’s return—requires the Christian’s undivided attention (1 Corinthians 7:35). The two participial phrases at the beginning of 1 Peter 1:13 help Peter’s readers understand what it takes to be “fully” focused on that final act.
13 Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
