The book of Song of Solomon closes with the wife calling on her husband to come to her as soon as possible. She wants them to be together again as soon as they can. He has to run like a gazelle, like a young deer over herb-covered mountains to be with her. She wants to see him come. She wants to see him jumping with joy. She wants very much to be alone with him.
It is so good to experience love together as husband and wife, to have time for each other. Such genuine love wells up from God’s love. Only through his love does that love last. That is the love that the Lord is pleased to give. It is the love that restores the love that has been violated or that lacks energy. God’s love is wholesome. This is how King Christ wants us to live. Then life will be good. Then there is peace with God and people. Then true peace and love is reigning between people who may call each other husband and wife—grounded in God’s love that he has proved to us in Christ.
14 Make haste, my beloved, and be like a gazelle or a young stag on the mountains of spices.
