Joshua 5:1–12 and the Trinity

Joshua 5:1–12 (ESV)

1 As soon as all the kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan to the west, and all the kings of the Canaanites who were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of the Jordan for the people of Israel until they had crossed over, their hearts melted and there was no longer any spirit in them because of the people of Israel.

What does Joshua 5:1–12 reveal about what God the Son does in my place and on my behalf?

God the Son has made an end to every shedding of blood through his one sacrifice for sin on the cross. As a result, believers have two sacraments by which we are marked as belonging to God. These sacraments are both a testimony to God’s gracious promise that all those who trust in Jesus Christ can be sure their sins are forgiven.
