Joshua 5:13—6:25 and the Trinity

Joshua 5:13–6:25 (ESV)

13 When Joshua was by Jericho, he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man was standing before him with his drawn sword in his hand. And Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you for us, or for our adversaries?”

What does Joshua 5:13—6:25 reveal about what God the Son does in my place and on my behalf?

God the Son has borne the burden of God’s wrath in my place and on my behalf in order to save me from the judgment that I deserve for my sins. I am no different than the people living in Canaan who were destroyed by God. I have also committed various sins deserving of eternal death. Yet in his mercy, God has atoned for my sins through Jesus Christ.
