1. Judges 13:23 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

How does the response of Manoah’s wife underline the difference between the two of them?

Judges 13:23 (ESV)

23 But his wife said to him, “If the LORD had meant to kill us, he would not have accepted a burnt offering and a grain offering at our hands, or shown us all these things, or now announced to us such things as these.”

While Manoah was hysterical that he and his wife would die because they have seen God, his wife, once again, shows a greater level of spiritual discernment. What impresses her is that the angel of the Lord accepted their sacrifice. She has a sense that she is not worthy of that. But she knows by his accepting their sacrifice, He is angry with us. She sees the amazing grace of it all. God wasn’t there to kill, but to bring life. He was there to bring his people out of darkness and into light.
