The healing that is referred to in Malachi 4:2 comes about through the atoning sacrifice of Christ. The miserable effects of the curse of sin are lifted through the suffering and death of our Lord Jesus Christ, who became a curse for us (Galatians 3:13). The prophet Isaiah says as much in Isaiah 53:5 (“by his stripes we are healed”). In both Malachi 4:2 and Isaiah 53:5, the root word for “healing” is the same (רָפָא).
2 But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall.
