If he tries to save his life by pulling the arrow (Job 20:24) out of his back, he will see that it has struck his liver. Realizing that his wound is fatal, he will be overcome with terror.
Zophar’s words remind the reader of Job’s complaint that God’s archers surround me. He slashes open my kidneys and does not spare; he pours out my gall on the ground
(Job 16:13). Yes, says Zophar, this is exactly the lot of the wicked!
