How is God the Spirit described?

Revelation 1:4 (ESV)

4 John to the seven churches that are in Asia:Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne,

John pictures God as enthroned (see Revelation 4:1–11), with the seven spirits…before his throne. This is the Holy Spirit, able and ready to be God’s presence in the seven churches. The point is not that the Holy Spirit is divided or that there are multiple Holy Spirits, but it is rather to show that the God who always is is present with all the churches of all places and times (see also Psalm 139:7) with his grace and peace.
