The Lord makes clear that he does not discriminate in his judgment. Every human being has fallen into sin and so receives God’s judgment (see also Romans 3:10–12). Neither being slave nor being free (or rich or poor) changes that reality. The collapse of the structures of human existence (sun, moon, stars, sky, ground) is a great leveler; suddenly all people are equal in their fear.
