What does Mark 10:13–16 reveal about what God the Son does in my place?
This passage indirectly focuses our attention on what Jesus came to do in order to welcome children (and others) into his kingdom. He came to suffer and die so that his people can be forgiven and ensured eternal life in the coming kingdom. Because our sins have separated us from God, we have no basis in ourselves on which we can approach God. Jesus has lived the perfect life in our place and paid the penalty for our sins so that we can approach God trusting not in our own merit or righteousness, but in his righteousness. We receive the kingdom as a gift when we come to God trusting in the crucified and risen Christ for our salvation.
13 And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them.
