The name of the king Belshazzar
means Bel protects the king, while the Babylonian name of Daniel means Bel protects his life. Clearly, after the death of Nebuchadnezzar, Daniel somehow lost his high position at the court. The Lord now shows that even though Daniel no longer occupies such a high rank as before, he is able to present true wisdom to the king. He must now go back to doing what the wise men cannot accomplish.
12 because an excellent spirit, knowledge, and understanding to interpret dreams, explain riddles, and solve problems were found in this Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar. Now let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation.”
