Luke 6:41 (ESV)

41 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?

The safest way to interpret Luke 6:41 and Luke 6:42 is to see these verses as a kind of illustration of what has gone before about “not judging” combined with “taking care to be a good citizen of the kingdom.” The message, then, comes down to, “Do not think you can do anything for Jesus and his kingdom if you have not taken all Jesus’ teachings to heart.”
