Their goal is to “assemble” the kings of the whole world “for battle.” Jesus had said that the new dispensation would be characterized by “war and rumors of wars” and “nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom” (Matthew 24:6–7). Through their words (mouths,
Revelation 16:13) and their validation through signs, these demonic spirits would seek to unite kings and their kingdoms so that they do not fight each other but merge their forces “for battle on the great day of God the Almighty”—obviously to battle God by means of attacking his people (Revelation 12:13, Revelation 12:17). As Satan had been thrown out of heaven to earth, his fight against God of necessity must now occur on earth.
14 For they are demonic spirits, performing signs, who go abroad to the kings of the whole world, to assemble them for battle on the great day of God the Almighty.
