Despite the wicked alliance of dragon (Satan) and beast (depraved human mindset) and prostitute (cities, civilizations, cultures) and men of might, they have no chance against “the Lamb who was slain” because that Lamb was worthy “to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing” (Revelation 5:12). As the angel said to John, “he is Lord of lords and King of kings.” It is the words of Psalm 2:1–12: though the kings of the earth set themselves against the Lord and his anointed to burst their bonds apart, “he who sits in the heavens laughs”: “I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.” So the kings of the earth should be wise and “kiss the Son” while they can “lest he be angry” and the kings perish. Here is portrayed what has repeatedly occurred throughout history: efforts to destroy Christ’s achievements on the cross of Calvary always fail. The Lamb was once triumphant and therefore always triumphant, ultimately in every generation and location.
14 They will make war on the Lamb, and the Lamb will conquer them, for he is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those with him are called and chosen and faithful.”
