Revelation of God the Son

2 Peter 2:17–22 (ESV)

17 These are waterless springs and mists driven by a storm. For them the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved.

What does 2 Peter 2:17–22 reveal about what God does in my place and on my behalf (the work of the Son)? This passage affirms that we escape the corruption of the world through knowing Jesus Christ. The implication of this is that salvation from God’s wrath (that which our sinful natures and actions deserve) comes through faith in Jesus Christ. He is the one who can set us free from slavery to sin, so that we serve him. He is the one who has perfectly walked in the way of righteousness—the blessed man of Psalm 1:1–6. Because he was truly righteous, he was able to bear the judgment that we deserve for our sin, seeing as he had no sin to pay for himself.
